First Internet portal out of the red in Québec: BRANCHEZ-VOUS! achieved a net profit in the second quarter of 2002

For the first six months of 2002, BRANCHEZ-VOUS! had a net profit of $7,773, compared to a consolidated net loss of $491,282 for the first six months of 2001. "Our team is proud of having achieved breakeven despite the very challenging business and financial environment", said Patrick Pierra, CEO of BRANCHEZ-VOUS!. "These results prove the long-term viability of an advertising-supported and independent Internet portal in Québec. We continue to provide the only strong alternative to portals owned by telecommunications and traditional media groups. Our results also reward the trust and confidence of our customers and partners, whom we thank for their support. We now think the company is on a much firmer footing to grow in the coming quarters."

For the second quarter 2002, BRANCHEZ-VOUS! had revenues of $254,398, compared to consolidated revenues of $355,661 for the second quarter 2001. The majority of this 28% decrease is explained by the ceasing of e-commerce activities, which accounted for $136,545 in the second quarter of 2001, relative to $219,116 during the same period for continued activities, mostly related to advertising sales. Consequently, revenues derived from continued operations have grown 16% from the second quarter of 2001 to the second quarter of 2002. On a sequential basis, compared to revenues of $169,177 for Q1 2002, revenues increased by $85,221 or 50%.

Most of this increase is due to increased advertising revenues. For the first half of 2002, BRANCHEZ-VOUS! had revenues of $423,575, a decrease of 31% compared to consolidated revenues of $615,920 for the first half of 2001. Most of this decrease is due to the discontinuation of e-commerce activities, which contributed $168,261 to revenues for the first half of 2001, relative to a contribution of $447,659 for advertising sales during the same period.

Management estimates that non recurring revenues contributed approximately $20,000 to net profits in the second quarter of 2002. As of June 30, 2002, BRANCHEZ-VOUS! held $51,834 in cash and equivalents. This amounts compares to $72,322 as fo March 31, 2002. The decrease is due to losses incurred during the first quarter of 2002. Management expects to maintain close-to-breakeven results for its continued media-based operations in the coming quarters, with the expectation of a slight loss for Q3 2002 and a slight profit for Q4 2002 - these variations being mostly due to seasonality.
